Imaginative, cinematic pieces that invite expressive playing and dynamic control. These works bridge the gap between method books and artistic repertoire, encouraging storytelling and musical independence.
Aphelion II is an ethereal piano solo inspired by the vastness of space. This captivating intermediate-level piece explores the concept of aphelion—the point in Earth’s orbit when it is farthest from the sun.
The piece opens with a haunting, atmospheric theme, evoking the darkness and mystery of deep space. As the music develops, it reaches a dramatic climax at the moment of aphelion before resolving into a radiant, major-key transformation, symbolizing the journey back toward the sun. With shimmering textures, expressive harmonies, and dynamic contrasts, Aphelion II is both an evocative listening experience and a rewarding challenge for developing pianists.
Doesn’t it seem like the month of October has two distinct personalities?
Of course, I love the dark and spooky side that Halloween brings. But here in Upstate New York, the fall foliage also makes October one of the most beautiful and colorful months of the year! In this classical-style waltz, I tried to capture both of October’s unique personalities. The piece begins and ends with an A-section that is dark and playful, with a hint of Halloween mischief. The contrasting B-section highlights October’s beauty with a nostalgic and lyrical theme.
Intermediate players will enjoy how satisfying this piece feels in the fingers! The quick tempo makes this waltz exciting for both performers and audiences alike.
This arrangement is a pensive and somewhat darker twist on the classic Christmas hymn. The 4/4 time signature makes the piece feel more slow and mournful. Though solemn, this piece ends on a hopeful note. Rich harmonies and subtle dissonance evoke both grief and grace, making it a standout piece for advanced students and performers seeking depth and emotion in their holiday repertoire.
I hope it will bring listeners a moment of stillness and peace during the holidays!
